Even somebody doesn’t like MobileMe, I was the one who really enjoy using it. I like the way it syncs all of my data and backed up on the server, even the ‘pushing’ feature isn’t working ‘yet’ on the iPhone.

However, I would have to say bye bye to it, since I don’t want to spend $ for it.

The thing is: I’m not online on my iPhone for 24/7. The price for Edge connection here in Thailand is too expensive (for Dtac, as I’m using this provider and I love it.) I can’t really gain anything much from using pushing/fetching feature Mobile me provide. I can do a sync by myself, really, using a cable instead.

So, MobileMe, I’ll subscribe you later after I have some more $$$ to spare and unlimited data plan.

พอดีวันนี้เข้าไปหาข้อมูลเรื่องผ่อนเครื่อง Apple ในอัตรา 0% บน Google
ไปเจอบนเว็บของ Freemac.net ก็เลยลองเข้าไปอ่านกระทู้ในนั้นดู
เนื่องจากว่า ไม่ได้เข้าไปเช็คข่าวในนั้นเลย .. วันนี้ลองเช็คหน่อยก็ได้

ปรากฎว่า เจอกระทู้นึงบอกว่า .. มี Apple Store ของประเทศไทยแล้ว !!!

ในที่สุด !! คำขอของผมที่เคยขอเอาไว้ ก็เป็นความจริง
เรามี Apple Online Store ของประเทศไทยแล้ว ^^

แต่ก็ดูไปดูมา ราคาก็คงจะไม่ต่างกับการซื้อในร้าน iStudio สักเท่าไร
ท้าวความไปๆ มาๆ ก็เหมือนกับว่า ไม่สามารถลดราคาลงได้
เพราะว่ามันจะทำให้ value chain ของ reseller เสียหาย

ฮึ่ม .. แต่ว่าผมว่าลดได้อีกนะ ^^

เท่าที่ได้ข่าวมา เห็นบอกว่าตอนนี้หน้าแรกก็ยังไม่มีอะไรมากมายครับ
มีข้อมูลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ เหมือนกับบน site ของ us
แต่ว่า พวกค่าเงินอะไร ก็จะเป็นเงินไทยหมด .. แค่นี้ก็โอละ (มั้ง)

ตอนนี้รอให้ทางฝั่งของ Education Store เปิดทำการครับ
ซึ่งผมไม่รู้เหมือนกันว่าราคามันจะลดมากหรือเปล่า แต่ผมว่าคงเท่าๆ กับ U-Store
(iStudio ทำร้านแมคของนักศึกษา เห็นที่นึงตรงท่าพระจันทร์ครับ)
ซึ่งผมนี่อยากได้ Price list สำหรับนักศึกษาจังเลย .. ;) 

ยังไม่รู้ว่าจะมีใครลองซื้ออะไรหรือยัง
มีโปรโมชั่นด้วย ว่าสั่งของแล้วได้เสื้อไซส์ใหญ่ สีม่วง
ทำไมมันต้องเป็นสีม่วงด้วย .. ผมว่าสีดำสวยกว่านะ
(ผมใส่ไม่ได้ ยังไงก็อดไป … ไม่รู้จะสั่งอะไรอยู่ดี ๕๕๕)
แต่เหมือนว่าของ จะถูกส่งมาจากทาง Singapore นะครับ
และเรื่องของ support บน site ก็ยังจะ direct ไปทาง Singapore อยู่ดี

คราวนี้รอ Apple Retail Store แล้วล่ะครับ
ผมว่าที่แรก ต้องเปิดที่สยามแน่ๆ ว่าอย่างนั้นไม๊ครับ?

The thing is, I usually backup my whole computer by using Time Machine to my external drive. I usually plug this drive when I set it on the table, so it always backup my whole computer during my work. However, today I didn’t realize that I forgot to plug my USB drive in there, until I found out something …

I forgot to rename a picture by using Save As, instead, I replaced the old one by using save button instead!

I was going mad at myself for a time period, as if I plug in my USB drive, I would have the older version by the time.

So, I plug in the drive, redo the old work again … Finally got it done. Took me like 40+ more to rebuild the whole page.

After that, I didn’t think that I would need the backup drive again, but I left it plugged in like that. And you know what, I actually save over an existing file again! (What a sleepyhead am I?) … but this time I’m insured!

So I fired up Time Machine, browse back to previous version, restore, and viola!

Lesson for today: plug in your backup drive before you go to work (if you’re using Time Machine.) Also for Vista user, I would suggest you to turn on “Shadow Copy” feature, so you would have almost the same benefits as Time Machine

OK, now I’m back to work with a backup disk attached

I wanted to move my machine from my bed to my table, so I lifted my notebook up as I should do. The only thing that I didn’t realize was that my external drive is still plugging into my notebook. It was really a bad mistake, since the drive just dropped on the floor!

Whoops! I thought everything would be OK, since the drive would park its head after it disconnected. However, when I plugged the drive in, the light keeps blinking and it won’t mount. I disconnected the drive and found out a log in Console

This doesn’t sounded good to me .. since it means the drive is fault! So, I plugged in the drive, and hope fsck will fix my drive …

Unfortunately, it still didn’t work .. So I tried to disconnect and plug it in again. When I look at the activity monitor, I found out that it really runs fsck_hfs .. but it couldn’t fix my drive ??

After the auto fixing couldn’t solve the problem, it’s time to bring a big guy in: Disk Utility! I used Disk Utility to repaired my drive. Unfortunately again, it couldn’t fix my drive! Maybe because it also uses fsck_hfs as Finder did

So, I thought that I screwed my drive, and I would lost all of the data altogether. However, I found out that somebody used DiskWarrior to rebuild their drive and it works. So, I gave it a short …

Finally! Disk warrior was able to fix the problem on my drive. Now I can use my drive for backup and store lots of stuff again

วันนี้เป็นวันที่ผมต้องมานำเสนอในคาบสัมนาครับ
โดยที่เรื่องที่ต้องนำมาสัมนานั้นเป็นเรื่อง “อะไรก็ได้”

โอเค .. อะไรก็ได้
ผมเลยเลือกเรื่อง Web Application ออกมาทำ
เพราะว่ามันเป็นเรื่องที่ใกล้ตัวของเรามาก และมันน่าสนใจดี
ถามเพื่อนๆ ทำเรื่องอะไรกัน เขาก็บอกว่า Web service .. เราก็ไม่ได้สนใจอะไร
เออ ก็เว็บเหมือนกัน ไม่น่าจะมีอะไร ..

พอเสร็จ หลังจากตรากตรำทำ Presentation มานมนาน
วันนี้ก็ได้ฤกษ์ present .. ซึ่งการ present ทำได้ไม่มีปัญหาเลย
เพื่อนก็ถามคำถาม บลาๆ .. ก็ไม่มีอะไร ดูเหมือนว่าโอเคแล้ว
แต่คือ .. ดูหน้าอาจารย์แล้ว .. อาจารย์ไม่ค่อยพอใจเท่าไร

เราก็เลยงง ว่ามันเกิดอะไรขึ้น
อาจารย์ไม่สนใจ อะ ไม่เป็นไร .. ก็นำเสนอให้จบไป

พอตอนจบ อาจารย์เรียกไปนั่งคุยกันสองคน
ปรากฎว่า ..​ อาจารย์บอกว่า หัวข้อที่เราเลือกมันง่ายไป ..

“ลองดูสิว่า ที่เพื่อนๆ เขาทำกันน่ะ มันเป็นเรื่องที่ยากๆ กันทั้งนั้นเลย
แล้วของเราน่ะ เราน่าจะเลือกหัวข้อที่มันยากๆ หน่อยนะ
ไม่งั้นก็จะเหมือนว่าเป็นการเอาเปรียบเพื่อนเรา จริงไหมล่ะ?” 

“การนำเสนอของเรา ก็น่าสนใจนะ แต่อย่าลืมว่าเพื่อนๆ เราเขาเป็นปีสี่แล้ว
จะจบกันอยู่แล้ว น่าจะเลือกหัวข้อที่มันเจาะลึกนะ ไม่ใช่พูดแค่เรื่องผิวๆ อย่างน๊็
คุณมาเปรียบเทียบเรื่อง Web Application กับ Web 2.0 มันยังไม่ลึกน่ะ”

“เอาเป็นว่า เรียกคุณมาคุยแล้วกันนะ เดี๋ยวคุณจะหาว่าผมแกล้งคุณ”

ไม่ว่าอาจารย์แกล้งหรอกครับ แต่ไม่คิดว่าจะได้ยินอย่างนี้จริงๆ ครับ
ผมเคารพการตัดสินใจของอาจารย์ครับ และเข้าใจว่าหัวข้อที่ผมเลือก มันง่ายไปจริงๆ
แต่มันก็น่าสนใจไม่ใช่หรือครับ? มันก็เป็นหัวข้อที่ break through ในตอนนี้เลย
ผมเป็นคนทำเว็บ ผมสนใจเรื่องนี้ .. ผมเลยอยากทำเรื่องนี้

ถ้าสมมุติว่าผมรู้ว่า ผมควรจะทำงานยากๆ
ผมจะขอทำเรื่อง RESTful ครับ ..
ผมชำนาญเรื่องของ REST จนจะเข้าสายเลือดอยู่แล้ว
Web service by REST เหมือนเพื่อนๆ เขาก็ได้ครับ

Gosh .. I’m a bit disappointed now, since I though Apple would modify the Magsafe adapter to be more efficient and not so-easy-to-break like the old model. Anyway, we’ll see what people will think about this, after they fired up their new Magsafe again …

Well, please don’t think that I want anybody’s computer to be on fire, but it just that … why don’t they do something about this. Even they did something about it (such as more insulation,) did they tested it that it’s going to be ok?

OK, for the guys who got new Macbook / Macbook Pros:

Rule #1: Don’t bend the wire, and don’t use that damn L thingie to wrap your wire! Also, don’t pull too hard, or yours will be yanked and shorted like mine!

Rule #2: Before wrap your wire, put your finger underneath the loop, to make sure that there isn’t much pressure to yank the cord from insulation.

เห้อออ .. รู้สึกนอยจริงๆ นะครับ function ของเว็บมหาลัยผมเนี่ย ใช้ได้เกือบหมดเลยนะครับ
พวกการแสดงผลต่างๆ บักพวก css ไม่มีให้เห็นเลย ไม่มีจริงๆ

แต่ที่ติดเรื่องเดียวคือ .. มันใช้ Javascript ในการ load content !

เหอออออ .. แล้วคำถามคือ ผมเป็น Web developer เหมือนกัน ทำไมผมรู้สึกว่า
จริงๆ แล้วการทำให้ Javascript มัน compatable ไปทุกๆ อันเนี่ย มันง่ายกว่าแก้ css อีกนะ
หรือไม่ .. ใช้ไปเลยสิ Prototype.js หรือ jQuery .. เพราะว่าดูแล้วงานก็ไม่เห็นซับซ้อนตรงไหน ..

แค่เว็บของสถานศึกษา ยังไม่สนใจ Firefox เล้ยยยย
แล้วจะเอาอะไรกับการที่ให้คนไทยเปลี่ยนมาใช้ Firefox กันให้เยอะๆ
ในเมื่อไอ้ลูกสีฟ้าๆ มันน่ากดมากกว่าเยอะ

ผมว่า ถ้าหน้านี้เปลี่ยนให้รองรับ Firefox แล้วบอกแทนว่า
“เราขอแนะนำให้ใช้ Firefox เพื่อความปลอดภัยในการใช้งานระบบที่มากขึ้น”
ผมว่า ยังไงคนมันก็เปลี่ยนไปใช้ .. มันไม่มีใครอยากให้คนอื่นมาแฮกของตัวเอง
มาลบข้อมูล แก้ไขข้อมูลของตัวเองหรอก เชื่อเห๊อะ ..

Yes, I’m one of the Apple fan, and I really like Apple products. However, when it comes to accessory and stuffs, I hate them!

Why?

Somehow, their price for those accessories are too expensive for me to buy, imo. Somebody may say that it worth to buy it, but for me who can make only 15k/mo, it’s too much.

I used my MBP for about 1.5 years now. It was working perfectly, until I suffer something; the insulation on my Magsafe adapter wore off on the adapter side! I usually wrap my wire using those L-shaped thingie on the side of the adapter, and somehow that made the insulation to be wore off!

Gosh! Why Apple didn’t document about this thing in the manual or FAQ?

Anyway, because of that I need to rub the wire to make it get back in the insulation. It was working fine, however, for a long period of time, so I didn’t think that I need a new adapter.

Until one day, I charged my MBP as usual, and somehow the light on my adapter suddenly disappear after full charge. I didn’t know that there’s any much problem going on with it, so I just ignore it and let it go. Time passed, and for about 4 more months that I use MBP with my faulty Magsafe, I discover that sometime my battery just gone dead, without going to sleep. That’s not good, for sure, so I recalibrate my battery by follow the instruction.

You know what I got? A 315 cycles 40% health battery!

That’s ridiculous! I mean, my battery got killed by the faulty Magsafe adapter! So, I tried to get my adapter replaced by the Apple service center here in Thailand. You know what? They said NO for the reason that my insulation wore off on the Magsafe side, not magnetic side.

Bs!

So, after I suffer with that, I think it’s time for me to get a new power adapter. It cost me about 3,870 THB (whopping $112) .. what the heck? It cost > $30 more than in US!

I though I would order one from online store, make it ship to my Aunt’s house as I used to. Somehow, I think that didn’t worth it. So I paid for it, the whole 112 bucks .. gosh !

So, After I bought their new adapter, I gave it a go and try to recalibrate my battery again. The charger’s light wasn’t disappear again, but then my battery still at deadly 40% health! WTF now? Also, it seems like I still suffer the same problem with not-sleeping-low-battery issue again! What a waste of money ??

After I did some research, I found out that the problem about disappearing Magsafe light would because of short circuit in my adapter. Surely, those short circuit should occur because of the wore-off insulation problem of my adapter. Somehow, the wire there got cut of and made a spark, result in short circuit. Hmm .. I didn’t think about that, or else I would buy that new adapter ASAP!

Finally, the next thing that I will have to buy would be a battery. I’ve looked on Apple’s website again …

It’s $129, which is .. well .. not so pricy compared if it’s going to last for a long period of time. I won’t going to buy a new model of macbook pro soon, so this would be my choice. However, when I check on Thai site, guess what?

It’s 6,000 THB, or $173! It cost ~$50 more than one in US! What a bargain …

… Hell NO for Thai Apple reseller shop. They are selling things with a whopping price, compared to another countries! Gosh .. I felt so bad now.

Anyway, here is a lesson: If your Magsafe insulation got wore off on the adapter side, get a new one ASAP. If it’s on magnetic side, follow this page to get yours replace. (My boss has two of them, and they both get replaced.) And surely, don’t buy any Apple stuff when you visit Thailand, it’s pricey ..

P.S. I saw on this page that there’s battery exchange program for MBP’s battery here. However, it stated that the cycle should be <= 300. Let me quote it:

Affected batteries will have one or more of the following symptoms:

• Battery is not recognized causing an “X” to appear in the battery icon in the Finder menu bar.
• Battery will not charge when computer is plugged into AC power.
• Battery exhibits low charge capacity/runtime when using a fully charged battery with a battery cycle count (as shown in System Profiler) of less than 300.
• Battery pack is visibly deformed.

Do you think my battery still be available for replacement? As mine will be ~315 soon. It’s only +15 more … help me

เพราะมองไปใต้กล่อง Login ก็เจอแต่ Link ที่บอกว่า ถ้าเป็นสมาชิกพันทิปอยู่แล้ว ให้คลิ๊กที่นี่

หลังจากที่ผมหาเจอ แล้วก็ใช้ความพยายามมากมาย
ผมก็เลยลองเอาหน้าเนี้ย ส่งให้พี่ที่ทำงานของผมดูทั้งสองคน
แล้วก็มีแต่คนบอกว่า “เฮ้ย มันอยู่ไหนฟระ” “ทำไมมันไม่อยู่ใต้กล่อง login ฟระ” …

ถ้าเทียบกับอีกเว็บหนึ่ง .. Wordpress.com

ลองใช้คำถามเดียวกันครับ .. ลองหาซิว่าที่สมัครสมาชิกอยู่ที่ใด
คิดว่าคนทั่วไปคงหาได้ไม่เกินเสี้ยววินาทีครับ ^^ ,, ปุ่มใหญ่เบิ้มเลย

นี่คือปัญหาของการ design web ที่ไม่ได้คิดถึง Findability ครับ
ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่ทำให้บางครั้ง การใช้งานเว็บ จากที่ผู้ใช้งานจะสามารถไปถึงสิ่งที่ต้องการได้ง่ายๆ
มันกลับทำให้สมาชิกรู้สึกเซ็ง จนถึงขั้นไม่อยากใช้งานเลย ..

อย่าลืมนะครับ เวลา design website
อย่าลืมคิดถึง Usability และ Findability ด้วยครับ ..
เพราะว่าบางครั้ง เราอาจจะคิดถึงแค่การนำ content มาใส่ในหน้าแรกๆๆ
จนไม่ได้คิดถึงว่า มันทำให้บางอย่าง มันดูค้นหายากขึ้นครับ

ปล. จะบอกว่า แล้วทำไมผมไม่ยอมมองตรงนั้นตั้งแต่แรก
ผมคิดว่า สีของ content มันเด่นของสีปุ่มนั้นมากๆ ครับ
และคำว่า Register มันเล็กมากๆ ในปุ่มนั้นครับ

ปปล. ต้องขออภัยทาง Bloggang ด้วยครับ ที่นำมาเป็นตัวอย่าง
เพราะว่าเว็บของไทยนี่ มีอีกหลายเว็บครับที่ยังต้องแก้ในส่วนนี้
หรือ .. ทำให้ interface นั้นสามารถใช้งานได้ง่าย + ค้นหาได้ง่ายขึ้น
